Urgent Home Required

A Home in Time for Christmas

On December 23rd, one of our experienced supported housing providers reached out with an urgent request.

They had been asked to take over the care of a young man with complex learning disabilities whose current living situation had broken down. He was in a shared house that wasn’t meeting his needs, and he required a new home—immediately. Ideally, they needed to relocate him within days, but with Christmas just around the corner, we knew it would be a challenge.

Finding the Right Home—Just in Time

By searching The Social Impact Investment Platform, the provider found a detached property in the perfect location. We quickly contacted the property owners, and, as luck would have it, the refurbishment had just been completed, and the property had already been professionally cleaned—it was ready to go.

This was the owner’s first experience with social impact investment, so one of our co-founders, James Carter, spent Christmas Eve on the phone, walking them through the process. The property owner was incredibly supportive and flexible, agreeing to a viewing that same evening at 7 PM.

Making It Happen—Even on Christmas

The housing provider loved the property and immediately agreed to a three-year lease at market rent. On Boxing Day, James continued to facilitate lease negotiations, and the terms were finalized.

The care team worked tirelessly over the holiday, sacrificing their own Christmas to make sure everything was ready. They moved in the young man’s furniture and personal belongings, ensuring his new home would feel as familiar and welcoming as possible.

And it worked.

A Dream Come True

The young man moved in, and he couldn’t be happier. In fact, his care team later told us that he had always dreamed of living in a red-brick house—and as luck would have it, this home was exactly that.

Now settled, his family has noticed a huge improvement in his mood. He’s engaging more in activities, and for the first time in a long while, he feels comfortable in his surroundings.

This story is a powerful reminder that when the right care team and the right home come together, they can transform lives—just in time for Christmas.
